For GPs and optometrists

Referring a patient

02

We book directly with the patient

Usually within one to two weeks; urgent retinal referrals within the week.

03

You receive a letter

After every visit, including scan results and the agreed plan, copied to the patient.

Same-day advice

Optometrists are welcome to call for advice on an unusual finding before referring. If it needs to be seen today, we will say so and direct the patient to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Emergency Department.

Co-management

Where a patient prefers to be reviewed locally after surgery, I am happy to share care with their community optometrist under a written plan.

Prefer to talk it through first?

Jamila will put you through, or take a message for a call back the same day.
